Are Dental Implants Safe for MRI ?

MRI or Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a 3D scan that uses strong magnetic field for diagnosing internal health issues of the organs and tissues of the body. Advance technology and computers convert the magnetic signals into a 3D image of the target area like your arm, leg, brain, or entire body for diagnosis. Certain metals, commonly referred as  “ferromagnetic metals,” are highly reactive to magnetism like iron, iron alloys like steel, nickel, cobalt etc. Wearing or having such metals in the body while taking an MRI scan is not advisable because they interfere with the accuracy of the scan and may cause tissue injury too.

Dental Implants are completely safe as they are made up of titanium metal and titanium alloy which are not “ferromagnetic” and do not interfere with the magnetic field. Yet it is advised to inform your medical practitioner about your implant as there is a possibility of image distortion in a small area around the implant. This should be considered only if the area of concern is around the implant. The implants we provide are 100% biocompatible and will not limit your options for medical imaging. There is no reason to worry about your general health scans if you are planning on placing a dental implant.
